Sontronics ST-80 HandHeld
Dynamic Microphone
|
| |
The new STC-80 is Sontronics' first dynamic microphone and is a natural addition to our condenser mics: the STC-5 and the recently released STC-6. Since the launch of the Sontronics brand in 2005, many customers have requested that we include a dynamic handheld mic in our range, so here it is!
The STC-80 gives great results on vocals and speech but is equally at home recording guitar cabinets, snare drums and tom-toms. With superb sound quality and low handling noise, the STC-80 boasts the same rugged construction and the anti-slip body grooves as our new STC-6 condenser mic.
If you're looking for a quality mic that delivers great results, loves life on the road and won't break the bank then look no further!
The STC-80 is supplied with a mic clip in a sturdy aluminium flightcase for ultimate protection while on the road.
Sontronics on tour with Extreme!
Sontronics microphones recently took centre stage on newly reformed supergroup Extreme's 'Take Us Alive' world tour. The group used two Sontronics STC-80 dynamic mics, two Sontronics ORPHEUS condenser mics and a Sontronics STC-1 condenser mic on the European and Far East legs of their Winter 2008 tour to promote 'Saudades de Rock', their first new album in 13 years.
The band was so impressed that guitar supremo and vocalist Nuno Bettencourt has openly endorsed the microphones... something he has never done before in his 20-year career.
"If someone told me that they have a live vocal mic that sounds as warm and clear as a vintage classic tube recording microphone," says Bettencourt, "and that I can get it loud on stage over my band's blistering stage volume, flat with nearly no EQ, I would laugh, and then tell them I've been touring the world for 20 years and I've yet to hear that microphone.
"Well, at a soundcheck in the UK on the 'Take Us Alive' tour, they showed me the Sontronics STC-80, I sang through it and I DID laugh - with disbelief at how incredible it sounded. So much so that we would not give them back. And used not only the vocal mics, but also the insane, silky-sounding pair of Sontronics ORPHEUS for overheads.
"This wasn't just an exciting affair with a new product, because when we did the last leg of 2008 in Indonesia and the Sontronics mics couldn't come with us, we suffered not only in sound, but in headroom on stage.
"Yes, we were spoiled. I have never endorsed any product unless it is essential to me. And it is very rare that a musical product comes around that you can't live without. Someone finally got it right. In 20 years I've never endorsed a microphone company... until now.
"And by the way, they are built like workhorses. I can't wait to try them in the studio. Nice work guys!"
The two Sontronics STC-80 dynamic mics were used for Nuno and bassist Pat Badger's backing vocals while the two Sontronics ORPHEUS condenser mics were used as overheads and the STC-1 for the hi-hat on Kevin Figueiredo's drumkit.
"The difference was amazing," says Extreme's front-of-house engineer Joe Brown. "I could hear every detail of the drumkit. The pair of ORPHEUS overhead mics gave me so much presence and clarity, but without any harshness... a revelation! And the STC-80's on Nuno's and Pat's vocals were incredible. Nuno has never asked me to kill the EQ on ANY vocal mic before!"
