Sennhesier BW900 Bluetooth
Headset with Base Station
|
| |
General Description
The BW900 is the bluetooth headset system for everything: Connect
up your computer, telephone (Land-line), VOIP, Voice Recognition, Mobile
Phone, and basically anything else that is Bluetooth compatible.
BW 900 - Business class wireless office headset is an office headset with
intelligent sound quality, 100 metre range and mobile phone compatibility.
You can use the BW 900 headset with your regular office desktop (up to 100
metres) and mobile phones, as well as alternative telephone types such as
smart phones, soft phones, etc. Needless to say, the BW 900 is compatible
with all your voice-enabled Bluetooth devices like PDAs and even VoIP-enabled
computers or laptops.
The BW-900 offers easy toggling between your office phone and your mobile
phone.
In and out of the office. Especially in combination with mobile phones,
you will benefit from the BW 900 headset while on the move.
More room to move
BW 900 is a Bluetooth Class 1 device supporting the version 1.2 standard.
It provides long-range operation and maximum compatibility. With
the base station connected to your office phone, you can roam around
the building up to a distance of 100 m. Additionally, you can move up to
10 metres away from your Bluetooth-enabled devices such as mobile
phones, PCs and PDAs.
Optimum connectivity
The Bluetooth interface allows the BW900 to be connected to several devices.
Whether you are using a mobile phone or other phone types such as smart
phones or soft phones, the BW 900 is compatible with all types of speech-based
Bluetooth devices. The user-friendly pushbutton interface provides for seamless
changeover between your fixed line phone and any Bluetooth-enabled phone
paired.
Non-stop talking
Should the battery run flat while you are talking via your office phone,
you can easily replace it with a fully charged battery without terminating
your call. While no battery is being connected, the BW 900 base station
maintains the connection to the telephone line. NB: This is not the case
for a bluetooth device call - only an office/landline type call as the base
station holds the call for 40 sec while you change the battery. Please note - a second (spare) battery needs to be purchased to do this.
Equipment:
The BW900 consists of several different components that can be purchased
together or seperately. The basic BW900 unit consists of the Bluetooth Headset (HS) and the Base Station (BS), as pictured above.
This is your starting point in any BW900 setup and is the combination advertised (and priced) here.
Features:
- Headset:
- Unique speaker - Perfect Sennheiser quality sound guaranteed.
Soft earpieces adjustable for perfect individual fit in three sizes.
Adapts for left or right side
- Multi switch - To switch the headset on/off, to adjust volume

- Hook switch - To take and end the call, or toggle between calls

use

Base Station Overview
The Base station is the center of the wired world of the BW 900 system.
It is intended for interfacing to any office desktop phone/PC.
Furthermore, for interfacing to any other Bluetooth enabled devices like Mobile phones, PDA or Laptops.
The base station (BS) is basically the telecom interface for your setup and the headset (HS) is the audio interface for both the
BS and any other Bluetooth devices.
The Base-Station can connect to:
- An Office phone.
- An office phone with an automatic Handset Lifter (HSL-10) installed which attaches to the desk phone allowing
automatic lifting of the hand-set when receiving/making desk-phone calls.
- PC/Laptop: directly or via a UI-710 switch (see below) the user can conect to a PC for VoIP or to
use Dragon Naturally Speaking (also see below)
- via TCI 1.0 to AEI and DHSG interfaces
The Base Station is by deafult (bluetooth) paired with the delivered headset.
The Base Station cannot be paired with any other BlueTooth equipment such
as Mobile phones or other headsets, only the headset can.
How to Connect the BW900 up to both a PC and a phone:
In the above diagram, you might be using Dragon Naturally Speaking on your
PC and then you hear the desk phone ring. To take the (desk-phone) call you would
hit the button on the UI-710 switch which cuts off the PC connection to
the BW900 altogether and then you would click the "Hook-button"
on your headset to answer that call. When the call is finished, you simply
click the "Hook-button" again on the headset to disconnect the
phone call then hit the UI-710 switch to connect you back up to the PC and
continue where you left off with Dragon Naturally Speaking.
Headset Overview
The Bluetooth headset is the audio interface to the base station or any other Bluetooth enabled
devices such as mobile phones, PDAs and PCs supporting the *Headset or *Handsfree Bluetooth
profile.
The Headset has the capability of pairing with three devices at once:
one base station (cannot be changed)
one mobile phone (can be changed for another mobile phone)
one PC or one PDA (can be changed for another PC or PDA, respectively)
The Bluetooth devices must feature a hands free profile and headset
profile.
Toggling can be done between the Base-Station and the Mobile phone.
Features of the headset:
(3) Volume button:
This is the multi button, that controls the volume of the headset. Second
when short-pushed vertically will mute the microphone during a audio link.
Furthermore when push together with the hook button bring the headset
in (pairing) discoverable-mode for pairing with base station or any other
Bluetooth enabled devices.
(4) Hook button:
This button will open an audio link to either the base station or an additional
paired device in the following way:
- Quick push - always open audio link to BS if in range.
- Slow push - toggle function to any other paired Bluetooth
enabled mobile phone that the HS is paired up with.
(5) Battery:
Low battery indication will be shown on BS front, as well as on the HS
it self. Furthermore an audio warning indication will be heard in the
headset. The battery can be replaced easily by hand and charged either
on the battery bay or by placing the headset in the headset bay of the
base station. Charge indication will be shown on the base station front.
Nuance's Dragon Naturally Speaking
Nuance recently awarded the BW900 the "Five Dragon Accuracy Award" for the BW900 running in conjunction with their Dragon Naturally Speaking Speech Recognition Software.
The main reasons behind Nuance giving it such a high rating were it's long boom mic and Sennheiser's renowned noise cancelling capabilities.
Here's what they had to say:
A class of its own - The Sennheiser BW 900
The Sennheiser BW 900 is in a special class of it's own. It is the only
wireless headset awarded Five Dragon accuracy by Nuance. BW 900 is a premium
wireless headset providing optimum speech intelligibility in any situation,
maximum all-day listening comfort, automatic adaptation to the sound environment
(Sennheiser specific "Adaptive Intelligence" decision-making digital signal
processing) and individually preferred settings.
With it's sleek and stylish design, you can use the BW 900 headset with
your regular office desktop (up to an amazing 100m), mobile phones, smart
phones, soft phones, voice-enabled bluetooth devices like PDAs and even
VoIP enabled computers or laptops. This headset can also pair with your
land phone. (Phone use requires use of an additional switch - not supplied)
The cables needed for 'Dragon Naturally Speaking':
There are 2 cables available that are needed to give the Dragon user the optimum accuracy. You can choose between either one:
1. Sennheiser CUIPC1 cable (modular from base-station to dual 3.5mm male jack). This cable allows the base station to connect directly to your PC's sound card.
or..
2. Sennheiser UUSB1 cable adapter (dual 3.5mm jack to USB). This cable
bypasses your soundcard and connects the base station directly to your
PC's USB port. Please note, the UUSB1 cable must be purchased with the
CUIPC1 cable to work. This combination is listed above as "DRAGON KIT"
in the Optional Accessories section.
The CUIPC1 cable works fine without the UUSB1 adapter (and is generally the most
common cable used) but because USB is digital rather than the analogue 3.5mm,
the CUIPC1 + UUSB1 combination will always give optimum results in terms
of accuracy and reliability. These cables are listed above in the options
section.
Optional Accessories for the BW900:
UI-710 Passive Universal Interface
The UI-710 box works as a connector between your handset and headset. At the touch of a button, the UI710 will enable you to easily switch back and forth between a telephone handset and the BW900 headset
or even integrate a PC into the system if you wish.
The UI-710 can be found above in the "Optional Accessories" list
UI-740 Active Universal Interface
The UI-740 is an active box which has additional features that will regulate different volume levels and improve speech intelligibility - automatically.
These boxes are absolutely user-friendly because they are easier to set up than traditional boxes.
