Chiayo SDR2816M Wireless Headset System (Quality Microphone)

 
The SDR2816H7 wireless headset system is a high quality, reliable complete wireless microphone system. It is a True Diversity, 16 Channel UHF System. A True-Diversity receiver has two identical tuners built into it (instead of the standard single tuner) and each tuner has its own antenna. Internal circuitry constantly monitors the signmal strength from both antenas and automatically selects the strongest signal strength from either tuner at all times. A true-diversity receiver has 5 times fewer dropouts than a non-diversity receiver. When the transmitter is in relatively close proximity to the receiver, a true diversity system will almost guarentee no dropout, regardless of whether the transmitter is moved relative to the receiver.

The SDR-2816-H7 system comprises of 3 main components:
  • SM5016 Belt-Pack transmitter
  • NHS777 (skin coloured) high-quality Headset micropne (that connects to the belt pack)
  • SDR-2816C Receiver Unit (with antennae). This receives the signal from the Belt Pack and headset.
The receiver is a compact 1/2 Rack Width in size.

A bit of wireless background..

Wireless microphone systems using RF (Radio Frequency) as the carrier type has increased by leaps and bounds in recent years. There are 2 main frequency bands used to transmit on: VHF anf UHF. The VHF band is currently quite crowded. To avoid this band and to ensure clearer signals, the only solution is to design equipment to transmit and receive using the UHF band. As RF interference varies from location to location, a conventional quartz-locked fixed frequency system is not capable of handling such fast changing RF environments. Hence the PLL Frequency Synthesis is the only solution left.

This SDR-series, employing the state-of-the-art microcomputer technology to deliver the PLL Synthesized multi-channel selectable UHF wireless microphone systems, will take you to the future.

Super High Dynamic (SDX) with Dual Band Compander Design SDX-Dual Band Companding is the standard feature of this series, delivering Super High Dynamic.

In short, Chiayo have designed the SDR-2816 series of wireless microphones to be highly reliable in any environment.

SM-5016 Belt-Pack Transmitter:
  • 16 factory preset user-selectable UHF frequencies from 600-900MHz per 20MHz bandwidth.
  • ±40 KHz peak deviation.
  • Pilotone Control (prevents outside interference from affecting the receiver and causing unwanted noise in the wireless system)

Optocoupler type Limiter
  • Reduces low frequency distortion, high frequency overload and noise modulation.
  • Protecst the input, control more over-modulation without generating distortion.
  • Allows more than 30 dB of audio overload at the transmitter.
  • Meets the most stringent EU standards for avoiding over modulation.
RF Test Function

The "RF test function" acts as a manual scanner. By pushing the RF test button, it defeats the Pilotone and enables user to check channel per channel to look for a clean one for operation.

Microprocessor controlled Antenna Diversity vs True Diversity

The heart of an Antenna Diversity system is the microprocessor control unit which maintains constant vigilance on the signal strength from one antenna. When weak threshold is detected and dropout is imminent, it takes chance and forces the receiver to switch over to the other antenna to avoid drop-out. In certain ways it is effective as the signal strengths from two antennas are never the same at any instant.

Whereas in a True Diversity system, two sets of identical RF front ends, IF circuits and Detector circuits coexist. The Diversity Comparator electronics constantly compare the two signal strengths and switches to and forth between the two received signals depending on whichever is stronger. Thus efficiently eliminating drop-out due to weak signal.

Technically speaking, microprocessor controlled Antenna Diversity performs better than a non-Diversity system. It is very suitable for many PA applications which are budget conscious and do not go on live telecast. However, for live Broadcast and live Concert applications, True Diversity is highly recommended.
